Is Deep Reading Fading Away in Our Busy World?

O

Modern life with its endless screens and quick thrills is killing the habit of deep reading. This change started in the past but grows stronger today. People once enjoyed books for hours, yet now attention spans shrink fast.

Imagine living in the late 1800s. You see famous painters like Van Gogh creating art of simple scenes such as haystacks under starry skies. At the same time, spiritualism spreads widely with people holding sessions to talk to spirits. Traveling shows mix circuses with clever tricks to amaze crowds everywhere.

Ragtime music fills the air in lively towns while theaters offer grand plays. Yet even then, reading books remained a quiet joy for many. It allowed time for thought and escape from daily noise. This habit built strong minds and rich imaginations over years.

Today, constant digital noise replaces that calm focus. Short videos and fast news grab eyes instead of long stories. As a result, fewer people read deeply, and this loss affects how we think and connect with ideas. The old way of reading may soon become rare unless we choose to bring it back.
