Hidden Cries for Help Found in CDC Vaccine Data

A review of CDC V-safe data uncovered free-text entries where participants reported suicidal thoughts, feeling they were dying, or deaths after vaccination. The analysis shows many asked for help but received little response.

React19 at the Brownstone Institute examined free-text entries from the CDC's V-safe vaccine safety program. The group used data released under a Freedom of Information Act request. They searched for reports where users asked for help, described suicidal thoughts, said they were dying or nearly died, or reported a death.

The review found many entries in which participants expressed urgent needs. Some wrote about severe reactions and asked the CDC for support. Others shared feelings of despair or noted the loss of loved ones. The study also checked what users said about any replies they got from the program.

These findings point to gaps in how safety concerns are handled. Important messages may have been missed in the large volume of data. The work highlights the need for better attention to user reports in vaccine monitoring systems.
