Downtown Atlanta feels cold and gray under tall buildings that block the sun. A trip through the bare campus to the government store for beans shows the city's lost charm and daily detours.
Downtown Atlanta has an unpleasant grayness to it. It seems the architects forgot any charm when they built the city. Towering corporate buildings stand close and block out the sun completely. This leaves the streets dark and without warmth for those walking through them.
I cut through Georgia State University campus which had no green spaces at all. The paths felt hard and empty as the buildings offered no welcoming sight. My route kept changing because of constant blocks and barriers that forced new directions at every turn.
At the government store I finally bought the beans I needed. The whole journey in this setting made ordinary tasks seem heavy and controlled by the gray surroundings. People face these small struggles every day amid the concrete and rules that shape their paths.
